It is a course of self-discovery and development. It aims to develop learning and awareness beyond what is typically covered in general classes, and encourages a deeper personal
practice. You will be encouraged to dive into asana, pranayama, meditation, mantra, yogic anatomy (chakras, nadis) relaxation, philosophy, yoga history and to deepen your own understanding and
experience of yoga throughout your daily life.
The course takes 12 days over 7 months, from September 2023 to March 2024, and mostly one weekend per month.
To qualify for the certificate, a minimum of 80% attendance is required.
The course is approximately 50% practice and 50% theoretical. There are no essays required, but there is a little written work at home. Background research (either reading or
listening to audio books, or reviewing on-line videos, attending classes) is expected. Students are also required to keep a regular personal practice journal.
The course aims to widen and deepen your knowledge and practice of yoga, and to inform how you might continue your development beyond the course, including the possibility of
moving towards training as a yoga teacher.
Applications are welcome from students from all backgrounds, with a minimum of 2 years consistent practice with a teacher. Students will also need to be current members of the
British Wheel of Yoga to start the course.
Investment: £750, (includes £60 BWY course registration fee). The BWY membership fee is separate, and is currently £37. Reductions/payment plans can be discussed for those
experiencing financial hardship.

Comments from previous students:
"Having recently been fortunate enough to be one of your students on the foundation course 1, my only regret is that I hadn’t signed up earlier. I consider
myself extremely lucky to have discovered Yoga with Tori. You are an exceptional teacher and human being and I am always grateful to you for all you have taught me and how you have enriched my life
during this time. To anyone considering commencing a foundation course. I would encourage or even urge you to take that step. I promise you you will never regret it. You might even find
yourself marvelling at the wonders of yoga unfolding before you in a way you never thought possible…….just as we did, and continue to do. So have the courage ‘DO IT’ and Bon voyage."
"I hesitated for a few years before getting into yoga more seriously - finding and doing the Foundation Course has been a revelation. I can't imagine a better teacher than Tori,
and the course is rich with information, experience and laughter. Just a brilliant thing to do. If you're wondering whether it's for you or not - I would say, don't doubt yourself, just do
it!"
"Tori's course exceeded my expectations. It was thorough, enjoyable, intelligently and empathically
taught. Absolutely excellent."
"Tori was/is an exceptional teacher, and it was a testament to her teaching style that even though
we covered a considerable amount of work on this course we never at any time felt overwhelmed. Her personality, approach and extensive knowledge of yoga was amazing and filled us all with confidence
and certainly created a relaxed atmosphere within the group and her support of us throughout the course has been second to none. As a result of this I have been inspired to continue my study of yoga
by moving on to foundation corse 2".
What did you like most about the course: "The depth and breadth of learning, the blend of content
within each session, the size of the class, and the knowledgeable and inspirational teacher. I am absolutely committed to continuing my learning, to continuing my personal journal and my personal
daily practice, and to work towards teacher training"
"I would strongly encourage anyone who has an interest in yoga to enrol on Tori's Foundation Course. My initial nerves on signing up that I was going to be
'found out' through not being flexible enough or lacking knowledge were soon squashed as Tori created an open and welcoming environment. Her enthusiasm for yoga is contagious! It was a privilege to
be a part of a warm-hearted group, each on our own yoga journeys, with the same aim to become the best version of ourselves."
"The course surpassed my expectations and I would recommend it to anyone wishing to develop their
knowledge and understanding of yoga. Although I feel I have learnt a huge amount, I feel at the same time that I have only scratched the surface! Tori's teaching methods are varied, very enjoyable
and allow lots of participation in a wide range of activities. Her approach is thorough and conscientious, covering every aspect in detail but her manner is always kind and encouraging as she shares
her vast knowledge and obvious love of yoga with her students."
"The course exceeded my expectations. Tori, the course tutor was enthusiastic, extremely
knowledgeable, always well prepared and was outstanding at timekeeping and keeping the group on track. The group were given time to share thoughts and ideas and encouraged to maintain contact in
between the workshops. In addition, Tori provided follow up information after the course weekends and also emails regarding preparation for upcoming weekends. Every student was offered 1:1 meetings
(which I took advantage of) as well as knowing help was available should we have any questions/concerns. The course content provided me with lots of new learning and has inspired me to look to attend
an FC2 course when one becomes available in my region."
"Particular highlights in terms of development: a much more rounded understanding of yoga, it's challenged many assumptions and existing thinking, in a positive and supportive way, greater
understanding of the anatomy of poses, fired an interest in history and journey of yoga to present day, meditation and breathing techniques, and using them in everyday life to support balance and
focus as well as in yoga practice, growing confidence in being able to guide my own practice and to know what works and what doesn't,“ it's changed my yoga and what I look for in it now. I have
developed a real hunger for more knowledge and understanding of yoga and am keen to continue my studies beyond the Foundation Course. On a personal note, I've just been so grateful to have the space
and time to think about what I think about things, away from the rapid decision making of day to day life. Listening to other students and feeling safe to challenge, change my mind or not be certain
felt really liberating. Don't want it to finish!"
"The effects of being a part of the Foundation Course have been wider reaching than I could have anticipated. I have felt the benefit of committing to a daily practice, whether this be
asana, pranayama, meditation, or a mixture of all three, and notice a sense of imbalance should I miss a day. And yet, when I do miss a day, I am able to show myself more compassion and
understanding, which I hope also ripples on to showing more compassion to those who I interact with. A sense of frustration and helplessness with World events is gradually being replaced with an
acceptance of what is, whilst at the same time an empowerment to live to my values and increasing confidence to move towards advocacy. I have enjoyed reflecting on Yamas and Niyamas and how I am able
to implement them in my day to day, recognising that it is not a 'tick list' but a continual development process throughout life. I am so grateful to Tori for her enthusiasm and commitment to
teaching yoga, and patience with my pronunciation! I am also grateful to the other students on the course, for open and honest discussions and more laughter than I anticipated!"
"If you are thinking about doing the Foundation Course, I would say, definitely do it. My motivation for doing it was because I enjoyed my yoga classes and was interested in
practicing more yoga at home. I really enjoyed learning about the history, philosophy and spiritual side of yoga. The course is so much more than the yoga poses. I gained a
lot more than I thought I would from the course including a greater understanding about myself, my relationships and behaviour towards others.. The course encouraged me to practice meditation
regularly, which has been hugely beneficial, because I find that I am calmer and less anxious."
"I would also like to say a huge thank you for the course delivery, it went way beyond my expectations and I have gained a lot from it. The timing of the course was great, it really helped to get
me through the lockdown. I will continue to implement into my life what I have learned and use to navigate life’s ups and downs. "
" It exceeded my expectations"
" The course was absolutely fantastic and I learnt so much more than I ever expected too. I feel very privileged to have had Tori as our teacher. Her knowledge, experience and wonderful
teaching style made the course such an enjoyable experience for all of us. My main takeaway was that yoga is so much more than just a regular asana practice and I will continue to integrate my
learnings into all aspects of my life."
"Far exceeded my expectations, I loved every minute"
"The whole experience was phenomenal. Tori is one of my greatest teachers I have had the privilege to be blessed with. "
" This course met and exceeded my expectations. It crams in a lot of information and covers a lot of ground. Tori is an inspiring teacher. She knows her subject inside and out. I loved
the weekends. They were jam packed and well balanced/structured. It was a great bunch of fellow students to learn with. I just enjoyed it so much; it's been great."
" The course was well organised with a wealth of information given both on the day and in handouts. It was delivered clearly using a variety of different methods which helped with
taking in the information. . The course tutor was extremely helpful in answering questions and dealing with other queries. I really enjoyed it and would recommend to others "
" The course more than met my expectations "
"This course has exceeded my expectations and given so much than I ever imagined, both physically and mentally. It has given me so much insight to help broaden my understanding of Yoga and
present endless options for a lifetime of continued learning. I recognise I have so much more to learn, and it will never end but I am proud of how much I have achieved during this
course."
"It has allowed me to challenge myself both mentally and physically. I have gained confidence in myself and my ability to structure and develop my personal practice. I have enjoyed this course so
much that I would definitely like to continue my learning."
"A complete transformation from the beginning to the end of the course. I have learnt so much and had not appreciated how much there is to learn and explore. I am fully aware that we have only
just scratched the surface. I have learnt so many different techniques and practices that I can apply to my daily life."
"I have thoroughly enjoyed the learning, Tori’s teaching and sharing of knowledge, the input from the other
course participants, two new friends that I was partnered with as yoga buddies and I look forward to continuing the journey that I have now started. "
"I feel my self-awareness has grown since the start of the course; I am constantly evolving with ongoing
learning. I feel I have become less triggered by people and situations; I try to respond rather than
react, with kindness and compassion, both to myself and others with boundaries in place. I have really
enjoyed the course and gained a vast amount of knowledge. A considerable development for me is self- acceptance."
"I took on this course mainly to go deep into the practice of yoga and realised that I have just dipped my toe into it.
I enjoyed this course immensely. I think it covers topics in reasonable depth and allows the students to go away and explore.
I don’t think there is anything that I would change about this course as I got a lot more than I expected. I would also highly recommend it to those looking to learn about what yoga really
is."
